July 2017 - Macau and Shanghai

While Kyle was finishing up summer school (geometry!), I flew from Hawaii to HK, visited Macau, and went to Shanghai to see friends. It was super hot and humid but my 3 years of heat training in Singapore paid off. The GM of the luxurious Forbes-rated 5 star hotel Altira took me around the hotel and casino - so fascinating. I relaxed at the JW Marriott in HK - reminder of my corporate days, without the stress. I stayed in the gorgeous Jing'an Shangri-la and walked my old neighborhood. Rob Schmitz's book of Changle Lu was a great pre-read, reminding me of what it was like living there and giving me much more depth of all the stories around us. I saw my old friends, the ones left living there - most have left by now. I ate at my favorite restaurants - Charmant, Ye Shanghai, and drank at both new (Speak Low, ASL) and old bars (M1NT).

At my favorite airport Narita (mostly because of the ANA lounge). Love the Japanese signs - smuggling terminates ALL your life! So don't do it!
