The peril of mobile phones is that they have replaced cameras and now our pictures are all over the place, in multiple devices. ML and Kyle started off their summer vacation earlier than Alan, going to SF and Kyle going to Supercamp on the Stanford Campus. ML went down to Irvine and LA in the meantime. We all met up in Hawaii for a short week, before going to Seattle to meet the Yens. We took a ferry to Lopez Island and enjoyed a fun weekend with our best friends. The biking trip turned out to be a bit of an adventure for the Tiens, who missed the turn on return route and ended up biking an extra 10 miles. Good thing we were on an island so we couldn't get too lost.
This is the summer of the phenomenon called Pokemon Go, so all the boys (adult boys included) spent a fair amount of time staring at our mobile phones, but at least outdoors!
Back in Seattle, we had an extra day. We had a tour of the Rieschel's amazing new house and then ate a yummy lunch downtown. While Kyle went off with Keaton to a park for Pokemon hunting, ML and I walked around downtown - enjoyed a flight of beers near Pike's Place, and walked to Starbuck's Reserve for a flight of coffee based on brew style (frankly I couldn't tell much of a difference). ML had oysters with Tina at a very cute restaurant, while Alan walked back to Pike's and enjoyed a small batch bourbon and then some sushi. Amazing weather in Seattle during our entire long weekend there.
We wrapped up our vacation back in the Bay Area, where we cruised around in a new Lexus, courtesy of ML's dad. We had drinks with friends in Palo Alto, and then introduced a few other folks to The Modernist club in SF the next night. ML and I retired to the boutique hotel next door, Griffon Hotel, after the specialty drinks of The Modernist.
