We
threw our first big Singapore party at our friend Audrey's art gallery / project
space, Yeo Workshop. Since the
Nepal earthquakes happened while we were planning this event, we decided to make
it a fundraiser, supporting the
Acupuncture Relief Project
because Anil supports
the organization personally. We had about 50 of our friends show up.
The bring-your-own-alcohol, casual attire (shorts & skirts), with an interesting
mixture of people made it a really fun night. Audrey's boyfriend Irwin has
started a catering logistics business (catersmith.com.sg
- full launch in Sept 2015), beginning with the restaurant
Nara Thai. They did an awesome job
with setup / teardown, and the food was as good as it looks in the pics.
Our helper Mary Jane made the super-cool fruit-skewers displayed wonderfully in
a half-watermelon shell. Kishore generously supplied a ton of hats and
caps for sale at $10 each, with all donations going to our charity. He
also surreptitiously gave all the women small bottles of Tabasco. You
figure out what that means. He even auctioned off his beloved hat off his
head for $180, sold to the properly-inebriated Mina. The thought-provoking
artwork made an awesome backdrop to our party, especially with the 5 Indonesian
women staring down at us from their high-def frames. Was she faking
disinterest in our revelry? Was that stiff smile really a disapproval of our
antics? Perhaps she was just bored sitting in an all-white virtual world
and digitally desired to step through the frame and join us. I think the
Nikka-whisky is making me a very good art provocateur.
