Chinese New Year 2014 - Koh Samui Villa
We rung in the Chinese New Year, year of the Horse, in Koh Samui, Thailand, with
our Shanghai friends George & Tina, Jen & Stephen, James and Kay, and their
wonderful kids. We also enjoyed becoming friends with a new couple Steve
and Peggy. What an amazing time at the gorgeous villa with its own private
pool, private chef, and private beach. We each had our own suite around
the shared central dining room and rec room. The food was great and very
reasonable. The beach sand was very fine, and the ocean water was
temperate. It was sunny and warm every day. Our schedule rotated
around the meals. In between stuffing ourselves, we lazed around the pool,
tossed the Frisbee, swam in the ocean, kayaked a bit, built sand castles, and
played volleyball on our makeshift sand court. At night, we played cards
and watched movies after all the kids went to sleep. During the 5 days we
were there, we never ventured out of the villa! I was a bit nervous going
in the first place, because we were there right during the Thai government
elections during the protests, but we never saw any trouble. The only
thing we missed was the Super Bowl, but that didn't seem to be a big deal since
the Seahawks blew out the Broncos. It was a truly superb experience, a
wonderful way to welcome in the new year with great friends, creating lifetime
memories. Thanks to James for being our group photographer. All the
pictures except for the last 20 are from his camera.
