2010 April - Mae-Ling's birthday - Shanghai

To my (exactly!) 40 girlfriends who braved the rain to join me at Glamour Bar:

I’m finally FORTY and Feeling Fabulous
Chi paos, Spring dresses, and LAUGHTER were all marvelous
What I enjoyed most was CONNECTING all of you
Thank you again for making my DREAM party come true

FORTY PRECIOUS MEMORIES – Please help complete

1) Sweet Ever After’s giant chocolate cupcake + mini pink cupcakes – thanks Song, it was delicious as always

2) Being surprised everytime someone walked in wearing a gorgeous chi pao or Spring dress

3) Trying not to be surprised when someone wasn’t wearing the requested attire - just kidding, I know it was raining, and I’m so happy you came

4) Hearing how ladies couldn’t decide which earrings to select: Pearl, Champagne, Pink, Ebony, or Purple – thanks Steph for designing these earrings just for my tea party

5) Karen and Melanie changing hair colors – fun, fun

6) All the creativity flowing with scrapbooking at the bar

7) Seeing ladies nibble on scones and tea sandwiches

8) the beautiful floral China tea cups

9) the feeling of old Shanghai – view of the Bund and rainy afternoon - just needed the sound of the mah jong tiles

10) An unexpected emotional moment during my welcome speech – I was touched to be surrounded by all of you

11) All the cheers when I announced the “Fabulous 40 Club” during the game -

12) Finding out one table ordered a bottle of wine with their rmb40 collection (or was it they wanted to get more change to gain points?)

13) Impressed how the Mah Jong table team combined bits and pieces of information to come up with the “Ice Castles” movie guess – looking back, they did deserve 10+ points for getting that answer

14) The wonderful black and silver bling rings designed by Stephanie and given to the winning “40 Bingo” team – congrats

15) Cynthia’s thoughtful and kind words after the game – at one point, I was thinking, “hope this doesn’t become a roast because I’m too young for that”

16) Lisa and Candy coming straight from the airport – true friends

17) A successful FUNdraiser and great prizes – see below

18) An opportunity to take a chi pao ladies picture

Speaking of pictures….sadly, my pictures did not turn out due to the fact my amateur college student photographer was not quite experienced using her camera. Looking on the bright side, the scrapbook pages created by you and this list of precious memories are sufficient treasures for me.

If you have a “precious memory” or anecdote to share from the party (especially something I didn’t see or hear – love those stories!), please let me know and help me complete my FORTY PRECIOUS MEMORIES list. Thanks in advance.

FUNDRAISING RESULTS

I am happy to announce rmb6050 was raised through all your raffle ticket sales and one silent auction bid.

THANK YOU x 40 for contributing to the FUNdraiser and for helping to achieve my birthday wish of raising money for a community organization.

The organization I chose to benefit is:

MORNING TEARS
recommended by Julianne Huh and Sarah Kim
www.morningtears.com

Morning Tears rebuilds the world for children who have suffered or are suffering heavy emotional pain.

Morning Tears focuses particularly on:

• children whose parents are in prison
• children whose parents have been sentenced to death
• children who have been abused or neglected
• orphans
• children who haven´t been registered at birth, and thus have no rights
• street children

Last Wednesday, I was fortunate enough to meet, Koen Sevenants, the founder of Morning Tears, and I also had the opportunity to personally give him the donation money.

The money will specifically and appropriately be used for the Morning Tears “Birthday Program”. Koen explained that Morning Tears believes it is very important that each child’s birthday is celebrated and that having their own special day helps the children develop their individual selves. Every time they have a birthday party, the birthday children look forward to having cake and blowing out their birthday candles. Almost all the children have thought for a long time about the wishes they want to make on their birthdays.

I also want to note the other organizations which were under consideration to benefit from the donation money. Thank you for your suggestions. I wish all the organizations could’ve benefitted as they all have passionate supporters:

JUCCCE recommended by Peggy Liu - www.juccce.com
Rethink Energy and Reshape the World

Max Foundation recommended by ?

Qifang recommended by Angie Wu - www.qifang.cn
