As of Feb 2020, these are the stats for our micro-finance loans on Kiva. I love the recycling of the loan money. We’ve put in $3600 into Kiva over the years and have ended up funding 522 $25 loans for a total of $13,275 (this number is actually higher than 522 x 25 because there were some matching loans – loans matched by other organizations / charities). I generally seek loans to women in Asian countries. As explained in the amazing micro-finance book Banker to the Poor by Muhammad Yunus, women are much more likely to use the money for the family, as opposed to men spending it on gambling or drinking or otherwise wasting the loan.
